========================================================================================= Jake Labotz All Soul and No Money Joseph Street Records LLC 2004
All Soul and No Money is probably the best debut album I have had the pleasure of listening to. Jake La Botz, who actually spent time as a street musician in Chicago, writes songs in the style of fellow Chicagoan G. Love. Alternating between smokehouse blues and sing-song lullabies like "All Soul and No Money," we are taken on a tour of a hundred years of music—from blues to bluegrass, the record packs in the influences. La Botz seethes the Chicago blues sound, picking his way through caverns of emotion on tracks like "Used to Be" and "The Cold is Coming On." He even manages a gospel sound on "It's Gonna Rain Again," on which La Botz is joined by the Chambers Brothers. But the best song is by far "The Ballad of the Unknown Bluesman," a killer blue note with La Botz demonstrating a million miles of range. All Soul And No Money may be singer/songwriter Jake La
Botz’s first internationally distributed album. But he’s
lived several lifetimes in getting there. Indeed, the
Chicago native, presently living in Los Angeles, has
packed a lot into his short lifetime. He’s been a street
musician and a busker and he’s opened concerts for Ray
Charles. He’s played guitar in the Mt. Zion Missionary
Baptist Church band in South Central Los Angeles and
he’s auditioned for lead singer in Velvet Revolver. He’s
appeared in several indie films including the movie
"Ghost World," and he’s written obituaries to cover the
rent. He once lived in his car until Chicago’s winter
chill demanded he go inside.

Mama's Boys The Black CD Release Date October 2004 Reviewed by http://www.bluescruisers.net/index2.html
The music is raw and full of high energy, remember e.g. "13", as is the bands live performance. We seen them on their European debut in Apeldoorn in the Bluescafe, and we were impressed by the speed, the musicality and the hard working attitude of the band. Because we didn't know much about them we checked out their website, read some articles on them and than listened to this CD, only to find out all we read and heard about them is the truth and nothing but....! We read they don't play the songs just as they were put on the CD and that too is correct. Of course the tunes are very much recognizable but they play 'm a little different depending on their mood, the atmosphere and the audience I guess. Anyway, a concert by these bunch is a killer, I for one was exhausted, only by listening to their wall of sound. I tell you this only because the same thing will happen to you when you play this CD, preferably with the volume on a fairly high level. The Mama's Boys are a band and they produce a real full band sound. As said in their biography: they're trying to achieve an “ensemble sound” and live as well as on this CD they did a good job on that. The singing and harpblowing by Johnny combined with Dave's guitar is well supported by the rhythm's Jeff and Jimmy build. The songs on the CD are a mixture of original Mama's Boys music and a number of covers such as JL Hooker's Think Twice Before You Go, Can't Kick The Habit by "Champion" Jack Dupree, Sleeping In The Ground by Sam Meyers and Done Somebody Wrong by Elmore James/M.Levy. Quality music by a quality band. The band: Johnny Mastro vocals - harmonica, Jeff Henry - bass, Dave Melton - (slide-) guitar, Jimmy Goodall - drums. The Mama's Boys - Black CD - self released, will be available through their website www.themamasboys.com and also check out http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mamasboys2 where this beauty will be for sale before too long. Right now you can listen to samples of earlier work of the band at CD Baby's. ========================================================================================= Alex Schultz Think About It Severn Records Release Date October 19, 2004

Mumbo Jumbo
Alan Mirikitani, A.k.a. BB Chung King, is an L.A. legend on the
electric guitar and the leader of one of L.A.’s most famous
bands, The Buddaheads. A complete
master of rock, blues, rhythm and blues, jazz, and pop, there
are few who have ever played with his confidence, mastery, and
impeccable taste. Guitar playing, however, is only a small part
of his talent. He is also a commanding singer, a world-class
song writer, having written for Shamekia Copeland, Curtis
Salgado, Ruth Brown, Bettye Lavette, and many others, an
accomplished producer, a brilliant arranger, and if that’s not
enough, a highly sought after engineer. Only DaVinci was as
well-rounded. It is no surprise then, that his newest album,
MUMBO JUMBO, combines all aspects of his immense talent and may
very well become a classic of the genre. The CDs are available via email at orders@wilshirepark.com, or buddaheads@wilshirepark.com also available at CD Baby, Amazon.com and eBay. Or contact Wilshire Park Entertainment, PO Box 253, Ojai, CA 93023.

========================================================================================= Mama's Boys Chicken & Waffles Reviewed by Eric Black
Johnny Mastro-harmonica, Dave Melton-guitar, Jeff "Slick Daddy" Henry-bass and Jim Goodall-drums are Mama's Boys and hail from Los Angeles/Longbeach, California. For the last nine years, Mama's Boys have played over 250 gigs a year and were voted one of LA's top 100 unsigned bands. They were named after blues club owner Miss Laura Mae "Mama" Gross who has been running LA's oldest blues club, Babe & Ricky's Inn for the last 40 years. Their latest CD was recorded live in the studio with no overdubs and 52 minutes later they ended up with a new album called Chicken & Waffles. The Album has twelve tracks plus a bonus track and eight of these were penned by Johnny Mastro or co-penned by Mastro and other members of Mama's Boys. There are also some covers which include Elmore James' Coming Home, Little Walter's Come Back Baby and Guitar Slim's Something To Remember You By featuring guitarist Dave Melton on vocals. Johnny Mastro handles the vocals on all the other tracks and plays a wicked harmonica throughout the album. There's not one bad track on this album as I enjoyed every last one of them, but a few standouts were the originals, Baby Boy's Boogie, One Day, and the nine and a half minute Blues For Late Summer. Listening to Chicken & Waffles, you can tell these guys love their blues and they play it the way it should be played…from the heart with lots of soul.
